In normal WordPress hosting, they allow to upload normally 2MB files in media library. But this is not enough for some big content site. In this article, we will show you how to increase maximum file Upload size in WordPress without using any type of plugin.

1) function.php File

By simply putting the below code in theme’s function.php file, you can increase the upload size:

@ini_set( 'upload_max_size' , '128M' );
@ini_set( 'post_max_size', '128M');
@ini_set( 'max_execution_time', '600' );

2) PHP.INI file

Check PHP.INI file in root directory. If no file exists than create one with same name. After that simply put the following code in this file :

upload_max_filesize = 64M
post_max_size = 64M
max_execution_time = 300

Sometimes it may not work due to hosting settings.

3) .htaccess file

You can also increase Maximum file upload size with .htaccess file. It is located in WordPress’s root directory. Simply put below code in this file.

php_value upload_max_filesize 64M
php_value post_max_size 64M
php_value max_execution_time 300
php_value max_input_time 300
